Toyota Recall 2010 Pedals Sticking
Over the course of the collective Toyota recalls of 2010 as well as 2009 involving both new cars and older models there have been several questions which may have in themselves arisen from sheer speculation.
Many people have asked obvious questions such as what would ultimately cause the accelerators to stick in the first place. According to Toyota this has to do with a specific friction device which is part of the design of the pedal.
This component is apparently there to give the driver a certain amount of resistance which makes the pedal feel more stable while driving.
There is apparently a shoe located in this design which as it rubs the surface next to it will be acting as it should during typical usage. However the specific materials may begin to stick after time. This is possibly caused by environmental conditions as well as normal wear over time. This could ultimately lead to varying degrees of actual stickiness and apparently is what the Toyota recalls affected by this are typically addressed in the 2010 recalls. While considering this scenario it is easy to see how this is indeed a viable explanation as to what would cause the sticking pedals and give the feeling of acceleration in certain instances.
Over time there have been numerous materials which have developed issues with their reliability. These could basically be in the design of any given product on the consumer market.
Many times there is only so much which can be done in the lab before products including new cars are thus offered to the masses for sale on the open market. This is merely a fact of life and indeed physics. The good news is that it appears that Toyota has made good on the identified issues over the course of a period of time. It would be the best result if no more issues arise for the auto maker, though there are powerful new car incentives, as there seems to have been a significant number of vehicles which never actually developed any issues with sticking pedals whatsoever. This is a prime example of just how the vehicle recall process is designed to handle the issues which develop with the products.
